ACADEMICS

ELA: The ELA program for grades 1-4 utilizes the phonics curriculum by Foundations. The primary text for our grades 1-4 curriculum is the Journeys program by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  Both programs are enhanced with Scholastic News, BrainPop, and Novel Study (Grades 3 & 4).

Math:  St. John the Baptist school’s math curriculum is supported using Progress in Mathematics by Sadlier-Oxford.

Science: The science curriculum includes Inspire Science by McGraw Hill, a program which students engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate.  In addition, students are challenged to explore more through STEM, grade level laboratory experiments, Mystery Science, Brain Pop, and Inspire Science leveled readers.

Social Studies: The primary text of the Social Studies curriculum is Impact by McGraw Hill.  In addition, students engage in understanding important historical events through project based learning.  Students further grow in critical thinking skills through essential questions and class discussion.

Religion: The Religion curriculum at St. John the Baptist begins with an overview of We Believe, by Sadlier with a focus on learning all elements of our Catholic faith, including the sacraments of initiation, prayer, morality, acts of service, solidarity and vocation.  Supplemental curriculum includes the Holy Bible, The Catechism of the Catholic Church, and resources by Sophia Institute.
